Traveling Do's & Don'ts

After such a long and harrowing year of being restricted to the confines of our homes the world is slowly but surely opening back up again and just in time for the traveling season. Whether you’re an experienced traveler or have only recently developed a newfound sense of wanderlust, visiting a new place—no matter how far—can be very intimidating especially since the ways in which we all navigate the world have changed. But don’t worry, the team at Helena Deneen have come up with a few vacation dos and don’ts to help make your future adventures a little less daunting.

Do: Bring a Mask
Don’t: Ignore COVID-19 Guidelines

Like we said before, the world is opening up slowly. We’re still in a pandemic and even if you’re fully vaccinated you can still be a host for the virus. Have fun but be considerate of your health and for the health of others, especially when you’re a visitor in somebody else’s neck of the woods. Do: Be Spontaneous
Don’t: Forget Your Itinerary…just in case

Having random flights of fancy, trying new things, and visiting new sites while on vacation is all a part of the traveling experience. However, you don’t want to get so caught up in the moment that you venture too far off and find yourself lost or in a part of town that isn’t so friendly to tourists especially if you’re visiting a foreign country. Plan ahead and have a guided agenda of places to visit and explore, that way if you decide to veer away from your scheduled plans it’s easy to steer your way back on the course you previously set out for yourself.

Do: Partake in Cultural Celebrations
Don’t: Mock the People

Remember you’re a visitor, you want to be respectful of the homes and traditions you are stepping into. Do a little research before you decide you want to participate in festivals like Carnival or Mardi Gras. Have fun, dance, sing, and shout. But don’t make decisions that would have your mama look at you sideways. The clothing, song, and food folks choose to partake in have such significance to the people that live in these places. Be respectful and don’t make the local residents feel uncomfortable in their own home.
